Sponsor Mom: Taking On the Challenge

Last year, I was the bleacher mom. Simply because, my daughter made the majorette team at her high school.  As the supportive parent I am, I yelled, videoed and photographed from the bleachers.  The squad had a sponsor that worked with them and I would help out when I can.  I didn’t do any of the “sponsor” things, more like the “majorette parent” things. I walked parades and bought drinks to the games for the girls to drink.

Well this year, my daughter is venturing into her second year as a majorette. So, I decided to take on the challenge of being the majorette squad sponsor.  Which means, I will have to order uniforms, schedule fundraisers, meet with parents, working closely with the band director and the principal, as well.  As a result, I will have to be present at all of their appearances.

What have I done to myself? Can I do it?  Will I survive? Let the fun begin!

My Happiness Chronicles

Starting off a New Year, everyone make their New Year’s resolutions. Some people make promises that they make about bettering themselves.

So this year, I decided that I wasn’t going to do a New Year’s Resolution but, to work on being a better Jeigh. I want a better me. I want to love myself so I can love others. I want to improve on me from the inside out and outside in.

Therefore, I am doing 365 days of Happiness! I want to emphasize on great things that happened to me every day for one year. I will write about all of them, so I can share all of the good things with you guys.

Keep posted!

Friend’s Escapades: Snooping in the Phone

During one of our “Girl’s Day Out” the topic of “Going through your boyfriend phone” came up. This is always a touchy subject because some of us is for going through the phone and the others aren’t so keen on snooping.

So, Jess said the other night she and Ralph were sitting on the sofa.  He got up to go in the bathroom and she did the ultimate betrayal to their relationship. She opened his phone, after watching him put in his passcode several times.  She said the found text messages from some friends and a couple of females. One particular female was asking about getting together.  She wasn’t sure if half of the conversation was deleted but she said it did not make sense.  It was like she was asking questions and he wouldn’t respond with an appropriate answer.  She said the female was an ex of his. She said the conversation went something like this when she confronted him about it.

Parenting: Dating the DMV!

It was time for my younger son to get his driver’s license; I can’t believe he is ready to drive already.   Since it was time for him to get his license which meant I would have to start dating the DMV!  I am not sure if any of you have experienced getting your child a DL, but this story is one for the books.

To begin my “dating” process, Zay had to take driver’s education for a week.  He had to get the driver’s book to study and complete the class.  He did exceptionally well and he was ready for the next step, which was get his permit. Getting the permit wasn’t that horrible of a journey.  We got to the DMV, he took the test, passed it and took the picture for his permit.  That was the best date the DMV and I had.

Friends Escapades: Girls' Day Out

Tee, Jaycee and I enjoyed a girls' day out recently. We all just needed a day away from kids, boyfriends and work.  We had an awesome time!  We left for the city early, so we had time to catch lunch, shop and shoot the crap.  Tee met me at my house, because we were going to ride with Jaycee.  She arrived around 9:30 am.

Once we got on the road, we began the truth conversation.  Meaning, if anyone of us asked the other a question, it had to be truthful.  Wow, did this open our eyes to our previous and current relationships as well as future plans.  Without spilling the tea, let’s just say it was extra juicy! Heck, I learned a lot about them and myself.

Sidebar: Ratchet TV Foolery, "Sorority Sisters"

My Twitter timeline and Facebook feeds were off the charts about this show.  Therefore, I watched every cringing moment of this foolishness because I didn’t want to criticize it before actually seeing the show.
First, let me state that as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, I am appalled and ashamed of the show.  The show was a minstrel show and has folly all around it.

In no way should educated and dignified women of these organizations act this way.  The misrepresentation of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho has me floored.  I am having a hard time trying to wrap my head around the idea that my sorority sisters & other sorority sisters selling out their organizations for a week of fame.

Fitness: Bringing Mission 15 Back

Yea, yea! I know, I have been talking about these missions for a while.  Believe it or not they actually work; well if you stay focus.  If you don’t remember what Mission 15 is; click here!
Anyhoo, I am challenging myself again because Thanksgiving put me over the edge for my weight containment.  During Thanksgiving, Bayou Classic is on our annual schedule of family activities, which, that brings about worse eating & drinking habits. It is something about Mother’s chicken, Harrah’s 4am breakfast, The Mercedes Superdome’s Bloody Mary’s and not to mention Gene’s Po’boys after the game, mmm!  To go a step further, if you ever visit my mother’s house during this time, her potato pies are delectable and will put on some extra pounds on because you can’t just be content with just one slice.
